Ever wondered how our team preps for our mission trip? Check out our 4 easy steps!
1. Meet…
Our team has met almost every 3rd Thursday of each month since March 2017. Each meeting lasts roughly 2 hours and consists of a group devotion, VBS planning sessions, and information on Kenya and Point of Grace. (And a snack of course!)
2. Practice…
Practice makes perfect, or at least makes us less nervous… During our stay at Point of Grace, we will be performing skits, songs, and group activities each day during our Vacation Bible School. A large part of our preparation is dedicated to making sure we are comfortable with our skits, have enough materials for our building projects, and know our songs by heart.
3. Serve…
As a team, we have had the opportunity to serve our church and community in both large and small ways. Since our first meeting in the spring of 2017, we have helped the Lady’s Society with their spring and fall rummage sales, prepared and served dinners before Advent services, led a chapel service for the students at Central Lutheran School, and volunteered at last year’s Vacation Bible School. We are grateful to these groups and committees for their support of this mission, and giving of our time and talents is the least we can do to say thank you!
4. Pack…
Our team is allowed to take two suitcases per person to Point of Grace. Our first suitcase will be for our personal items, and the second will be full of items that are in high demand at the school and orphanage. Items like wash cloths, quilts, underwear, socks, shoes, pencils, erasers, toothbrushes, and toothpaste have all been meticulously recorded and carefully packed into donated suitcases. These suitcases will then travel with us to Kisumu and distributed to the children that need them most. The children will then use the donated suitcases to store personal items in the future. In total, we will have packed and transported at least 22 suitcases full of items to Kenya! (A little more than 1,000 pounds!)
