Hurry up and …. wait!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:11-13

Its not always fun to be told to wait. Whether you’re 5 years old and have to wait your turn on a slip n’ slide or a grown adult that has to postpone a much anticipated mission trip, waiting is hard. Waiting can seem unfair.

Late last September we were asked to wait.  We were nearly packed and ready for our October 2017 mission trip to Kisumu, Kenya, but then the unexpected happened. Kenya’s elections took a turn for the worst, and it was no longer safe for our mission to continue as planned. Months of preparation, packing, and praying were put on hold, and we had to wait. Why couldn’t Kenya get it together? When would it be safe again? Don’t they know we have a mission to carry out!?

Sometimes the most difficult questions are explained with the simplest answers. Jeremiah 29:11-13 assures us that God has a plan for us, but we must first call on him. In the weeks and months that have followed, God’s plan has become more clear. Our team has had time to bond and become a closer family, our reach has become broader in our community, and our mission has more meaning.

We greatly appreciate your donations, kinds words, and prayers while we have waited.  Your thoughtfulness is a means of opportunity to all of the deserving students at Point of Grace, and with your help we hope to continue God’s good work there in his time.

Please continue to follow our blog as we hope to prove that sometimes good things are worth waiting for!
